Sunday Chatter

My cousin does this thing every week called "Sunday Chatter."  So I'm stealing your idea, Jill.

1.  My washing machine of two years is broken.  It will take a week for the parts to come in.  No, Sears doesn't issue "rental machines" until mine is working.  I asked.  Thank goodness for extended warranties, though!  I shouldn't have to pay for any of this.

2.  There is a HUGE Christmas tree right as you walk in the door at our Wal-Mart.  For. The. LOVE!!  And Christmas music.  This monstrosity was up Nov. 1.  I seem to remember that there is a holiday coming up THIS month--I think it's called Thanksgiving Day.  And it's all about being thankful for what we have.  But we completely forget about it--sandwiched between the "Give me candy or I'll do something bad to you holiday," and the "Give me presents because I've been good all year holiday."

3.  M had her first school pictures taken.  So we did what one always does--pay for pictures, sight unseen, and pray that the photographer doesn't snap the picture while your kid is blinking, swallowing, or grimacing.  I didn't at all think I should have to pray that the picture backdrop wouldn't look like vomit.  My mistake.  I'll definitely be sure to pray for that next year. Incidentally, my 8th grade school picture looks just like Jennifer Garner's character's 8th grade school picture in 13 Going on 30.  M's looks like the cool kid's.

4. Our street is experiencing a particularly beautiful fall.  So is the oak tree in my front yard.  In fact, my brother-in-law threatened to take it out of my yard and back to his house.

5.  My sister, who is in the National Guard, has been in Kosovo for the past seven months.  She came home for a 10 day leave last Wednesday.  She and her family came up for the weekend, and I'm counting the days until Friday, when I go spend some time with her--by myself!  :o)

6. I have been downloading music from iTunes, lately.  Bangles Greatest Hits (great idea, Julie!);
Anyone Else but You from the movie, Juno.  The one sung by the main characters, not the explicit one by The Moldy Peaches (some friends had their first dance to it at their wedding a couple of weeks ago); Somebody to Love sung by George Michael and Queen (also recommended by a friend); and Brown-Eyed Girl by Van Morrison, which always makes me think of my grandmother.  Probably because it was playing on the radio on the way home from her funeral.

7.  Can't wait until Nov. 5.  I'm getting really tired of "vote for me because _________ is so awful."  It seems like you don't even need to be qualified to run for political office, anymore.  You just need to point out all of the bad things your opponent has done.  Am I voting for the "lesser of two evils?"  or the "evil of two lessers?"

8.  I finally switched out my summer clothes for fall/winter ones.  I love changing out clothes!  It's kind of fun to open the tubs and see things that I had forgotten I had.  And I love sweaters, long-sleeved shirts, and jeans!  I am sad to put away my flip-flops, though.

9.  I just noticed that our Wal Mart has started selling Nicole by O.P.I. nail polish, which works SO much better than the cheap stuff!!

10.  One of my dream homes where I live that was on the market sold.  The other one is still for sale, but unfortunately, I still have no money, time, or energy to buy, and it is currently owned by some of our dear friends, so I really want it to sell.  For them.
