Happenings on the Homefront

Well, the week that I have been waiting for since we bought our house six years ago has arrived.

Tomorrow, the fabulous flooring guys will come and begin refinishing our wood floors. The last two weeks have been a flurry of moving items, paint, sandpaper, drywall compound, more sandpaper, more paint, help from two great friends, more sandpaper, countless trips to the hardware store and Wal Mart, and more sandpaper.

Through all of this, I have learned:

~It is possible to paint so much that one gets blisters on one's hand. And definitely Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

~It is quite fun to use a caulking gun.

~Painting trim is misnamed. Mostly it is sanding trim. With a couple of coats of paint in between just to make a big mess.

~Your teenage children think you look "Cool" when you have streaks of "summer pool" and "oasis" in your hair. They ask if they can have theirs done as well.

~It is a sad, sad day when the paint guy at the store knows you by name.

~No matter where your child is in the continental U.S., or what he or she is doing, if you so much as THINK about opening a can of paint, he or she will be right by your side wanting to "help."

So, if in the next couple of days, I seem to fall off of the face of the earth, please come check on me. I may have succumbed to paint fumes.

Or just maybe, I am "wasting away in Margaritaville."!

And now you know why I am the way I am! However, it will be so worth it!
