Ten Things

There are lots of things that I don't understand, but here is a short list of some of the things that have been crowding my brain this week:

Ten Things I Don't Understand

  1. Why, after 3 years of doing a paper route, I still have to tell my children every day to pick up their mess.

  2. How a child can eat 4 candy coated, bite-sized m&m candies (you know--melt in your mouth, not in your hand) and have chocolate stretched from one ear clear to the other.

  3. Why, after going to the trouble to mop a floor, someone instantly spills something on it. Something very sticky.

  4. Ditto for the similar thing that happens right after I've cleaned a bathroom toilet--it elicits a "clean-out day" for at least one member of my family. Works better than a laxative.

  5. Why multiplying two negative numbers equals a positive number.

  6. Ditto for imaginary numbers. What exactly is "i", anyway?

  7. Why, even with all of our failings and imperfections, do our children love and trust us implicitly?--Okay, well this starts to wear off a little when they can count their ages in double digits, but 9 give-or-take years of our kids totally believing in us is pretty good.

  8. Why a seemingly normal pregnancy just ends at six months with no warning. And how his parents keep going through the motions of living.

  9. How working mothers juggle work and family every DAY of their lives. I have only been doing it for a little over a week, and it is one of the hardest things I have ever done.

  10. Why God thought that humanity was worth redemption. I mean, he could've scrapped this whole creation and started all over.
