I Love It...Not.

I am in (or very close to) the city where I grew up. Work meetings today, and all of that. I decided to go for a run early this am.

Of all the times to run, very early in the morning, or very late at night are my favorites. I love the mornings--the sun coming up, the quiet streets, where the only thing that I really have to pay attention to is automatic lawn sprinklers. I enjoy just letting my mind wander.

Today, my mind went back to when I began running. I was fifteen, and my best friend wanted to run track. And, well, if she was going to do it, I was going to, also. (At that point I didn't really understand that Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" slogan could be applied to a variety of different situations--not just drugs.) Thus began my--and I am actually going to type this out--TWENTY year-long relationship with running.

I ran, off and on, throughout high school and college and ever since. Sometimes it has been more "off" than "on." The funny thing is, I didn't really love doing it back then. And I really don't love doing it now.

I do, however, LOVE cheesecake. And because of my love for cheesecake, and other items in that genre, I have been forced to revisit my relationship with running and grudgingly give it the respect it deserves.

But I don't have to like it.

Seriously. That was NEVER going to be my job...my screwy sense of rhythm was not going to cooperate and allow me to conduct ANYTHING!!:o)
