Poor Bathsheba

I never used to feel sorry for Bathsheba in the Bible. If you bathe where you can be viewed, aren't you kind of asking for someone to notice you?

Last week, I stayed with a friend while administering state assessments. The first morning dawned bright and sunny. And as part of my normal routine, I showered. Nothing out of the ordinary--just the same old unbelievably long process of getting ready in the morning. My friend's bathroom has unbelievable natural light, which was such a plus. In fact, I commented on this over breakfast.

Day two was dreary and raining. Again, I got into the shower. This time, I noticed something. Lights in the distance. I looked. Oh, my gosh!! The reason for all of the fabulous natural light in her bathroom? A window in the wall of the shower. That I didn't notice the day before--probably because of the sunlight outside, but I totally noticed on Day two, due to the darkness outside. Those lights I saw?? They were illuminating the cheery classrooms of the elementary school behind my friend's house. I could see desks. And the writing on bulletin boards. Which means anyone in any one of those rooms could probably see me. Nice.

As I came to this realization, I saw a movement in the backyard. My friend's teenage daughter had gone out into the backyard looking for the cat. Great. Now I get to save my money to pay for the therapy she will need to remove the image of my middle-aged naked body from her mind.

My friend is so getting frosted glass spray for her birthday!
