My dad used to say that. All the time. And I would roll my eyes. Didn't he realize how hard it was to live with other people who seemed hell-bent on annoying the beejeebies of you?
I have now officially become my father. My kids' bickering and purposely trying to irritate each other is DRIVING ME NUTS!! I actually asked them yesterday if they really wanted me to have a nervous breakdown right in the middle of the kitchen while they fought about loading the dishwasher. And I wanted a truthful answer.
So, it is now time for drastic measures. I have sunk to their level. I am going to employ behavior modification with food. I had my husband buy 4 king-sized packages of M&Ms. I poured each bag into a separate bowl for each child.
Every time someone says, does, looks, or BREATHES something nasty or unkind or generally irritating to a sibling, they get to take an M&M out of their bowl, and put it in the bowl of the "brother offended." At the end of the week (if they have any left) they can eat whichever M&Ms are in their bowl.
I'll be interested to see how this works. Either I will be able to tell by the end of the week who the primary instigator(s) are, or the M&Ms will be so grimy and disgusting from being moved from one bowl to another on an almost second-by-second basis, that they will be unfit for human consumption!
I'll let you know how it goes!
