We are on the return leg of our trip to Michigan and stopped in Kansas City for several reasons: My family is from here, and we wanted to see them; my brother is in a play that I want to see; and my boys are HUGE baseball fans--specifically huge Royals fans, and we have never taken them to a Royals game before. After a seemingly LONG drive from Joliet, IL to Kansas City, we made it to our first professional baseball game as a family--Hence, my list for this week:
Ten Great Things that Happened at the Royals Game
- We arrived early. For those of you who know us well, that is a HUGE feat in and of itself.
- For answering just a few short questions for a survey, we got a coupon for half-price tickets.
- The weather was perfect--not too hot, not too cold, not windy, no clouds in the sky.
- Someone gave us a free token to "Little K" where kids can do fun activities before the game.
- My oldest won a Royals tee shirt for predicting the speed of her pitch.
- No one spilled the drinks that cost a small mortgage payment and had no lids--what is up with that--so there were no tears or complaining about being thirsty.
- We got to see John Buck hit a home run.
- Even though, in the words of my third child, the Royals started out "stinking it up," they actually came back to score 3 runs in the 8th inning and 1 in the 9th. Not enough to win the game, but enough to make it lots more exciting. We only lost by 1 run.
- We saw the best fireworks display I have ever seen--sitting in stadium seats which are lots more comfortable than clammy blankets on the ground, and not a mosquito in sight.
- The vending kiosks were still open after it was over, so my kids could spend their hard-earned money on overpriced souvenir junk.
